A Passion for Preventative Medicine
Deborah’s journey into healthcare began with a profound interest in preventative medicine. From her early days as a nurse, she recognized the importance of maintaining vitality through a healthy diet, regular activity, balanced lifestyle, and proper skincare. This passion has been the driving force behind her career and the establishment of First Impressions.
Deborah believes that true beauty comes from a harmonious balance of inner health and outer radiance, and she has dedicated her life to helping her clients achieve this balance.
A Career of Dedication and Excellence
Deborah’s extensive career includes significant roles in various medical fields. She has worked in Pre & Post Surgical care, Cardiology, Remote Northern Nursing, the Department of National Defense, and specialized in Emergency and Trauma Care for over 10 years. This diverse background has given her a unique perspective and a deep understanding of patient care.
In 2013, Deborah opened the first independently owned and operated Nurse Practitioner clinics in Atlantic Canada, entirely devoted to non-surgical rejuvenation and anti-aging medicine. These clinics, known as First Impressions Rejuvenation Clinic, are now a trusted name in Nova Scotia, attracting patients from across the province, country, and even internationally.
Deborah’s commitment to education and professional development is evident in her active involvement in teaching and training. She serves as faculty for the Atlantic Training Institute for Medical Aesthetics and the Canadian Board of Aesthetic Medicine, training nurses and physicians nationally and internationally. She is also an Accreditation Program reviewer for Medical Aesthetics programs seeking certification and accreditation with the Canadian Nurses Association.
Deborah’s passion for education extends beyond her clinic. She teaches the Master of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Program at Athabasca University and precepts Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.
Her dedication to the healthcare profession is further reflected in her involvement with various councils, committees, and regulatory bodies, both nationally and internationally. She is deeply involved in regulatory work to ensure the highest standards of safety, competency, and quality in medical aesthetics. Her contributions have significantly influenced the practice and regulation of aesthetic medicine in Canada and beyond.
Deborah is a strong advocate for public awareness about the importance of choosing qualified and trained providers for aesthetic treatments. She frequently educates the public on the risks associated with unregulated or untrained providers and emphasizes the value of certified and accredited practitioners.
Deborah is also deeply committed to giving back to the community and the healthcare profession. She has volunteered for numerous committees, community events, and projects. Notably, she participated in a mission to Sierra Leone, where she and her team tested over 5,000 citizens for HIV/AIDS, ensuring those in need received care and education.
“I’ve always been passionate about helping others, eliminating challenges, overcoming obstacles, learning, giving back, and delivering exceptional patient care. I enjoy giving and helping others to be their best self. I’ve always been intrigued with health and wellness and started my career in healthcare at a very young age, even as a volunteer Candy Striper and Red Cross Youth Group leader when I was just a young adolescent and as an older adolescent a Military Medic; my inspiration continues to grow.” – Deb
