Aging, long-term sun exposure, genetics, an active lifestyle, and normal wear and tear can contribute to uneven skin tone and various skin maladies.
There are many different skin treatments on the market that can help improve the texture and appearance of your skin. As time goes on, these treatments have become more refined, improving precision unlike ever before. The Halo™ Laser Treatment is a revolutionary treatment that uses a hybrid fractional laser. What this means is that Halo™ uses two different types of lasers at once.
The first laser is an ablative laser that vaporizes microscopic sections of the skin to promote total regeneration. The second laser is non-ablative and heats the deep layers of the skin to cause a wound-healing reaction, thus stimulating collagen production. The Halo™ Laser Treatment is considered fractional because it treats a certain percentage of the skin, encouraging reduced downtime and rapid healing compared to traditional ablative lasers.
The Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser combines deep dermal revitalization with epidermal renewal to target precisely the right depth for quick, efficient, and effective results when treating the signs of aging. Common skin issues treated include wrinkles, fine lines, discoloration, sun damage, visible signs of aging, enlarged pores, actinic keratoses, and poor skin appearance.
Patients can expect significant textural changes including the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles and smoothing of scars. The Halo™ Laser Treatment encourages an even skin tone and boosts the “Halo Glow,” which is a healthy, radiant, youthful glow after the skin has healed.
It is no secret that many laser treatments are only effective for men and women with lighter pigment skin complexions. Why? Well, the laser targets visible skin imperfections, some of which are more easily overlooked with darker skin tones. Halo™ can treat all skin types no matter the skin tone. Its settings are so customizable, it is considered one of the safest laser treatments for dark skin. It is also the laser of choice for treating melasma and other types of hyperpigmentation.
Halo™ is great for patients seeking to treat signs of sun damage, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and texture issues. Besides the face, popular treatments include the neck, chest, arms, hands, and legs. It is not recommended for the abdomen, back, or side, nor does it treat deep wrinkles that require deeper laser resurfacing.
What To Expect During Halo™ Laser Treatment
Every treatment first begins with a comprehensive consultation with your practitioner to discuss your health history and overall skincare goals. Treatment can take up to an hour to complete.
Prior to treatment, you will be given a pair of special goggles to wear to protect your eyes from the laser light.
At the beginning of your treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to the specific treatment area to reduce discomfort during the process. Once the topical numbing cream has taken effect (about 30 to 60 minutes after application), your practitioner will roll the Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser handpiece in a crisscross pattern on different sections of the face. The patented system will recognize when the treatment is complete, and your practitioner will conclude your treatment accordingly.
You will feel minimal to no discomfort during the treatment thanks to the topical anesthetic and integrated cooling technology. Most patients report feeling heat around the treatment area alongside occasional prickling sensations.
Most practitioners apply a moisturizer to the treated area to keep the skin protected and moist after the procedure.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
Your downtime will be dependent on the intensity of your treatment. More aggressive treatments may result in a longer period of recovery. It is best to plan your treatment around your schedule that allows you a few days to recover. Swelling, redness, and a warm feeling on the skin can last up to 24 hours post-treatment. Patients compare the sensation to having a sunburn. After the treatment, your skin will begin to peel. This can last 5-7 days, depending on the depth of the treatment. This is totally normal and part of the rejuvenation process.
Swelling is a good indicator the treatment is working. It means collagen stimulation is in full force. You can reduce swelling by avoiding salty foods, keeping your head elevated when you sleep by propping it up on a pillow and taking an antihistamine.
Do not be alarmed if brown spots on your skin become darker. This will subside within a week.
For the first 24 hours or so, you will need to protect your skin according to your practitioner’s aftercare instructions. It is recommended you do not wear makeup during this 24-hour period. Do not vigorously cleanse your skin and opt to use gentle cleansers and a simple moisturizer during the healing process. You should be able to resume your normal activities after the first 24 hours, but there will be peeling and flaking for the days to come. Makeup can be applied once the peeling is complete.
BBL Halo™ Laser Treatment Results
Your skin will be working hard to shed the old layer and put forth the fresh, rejuvenated layer of skin surrounding your treatment area. After the first day, you will mainly see redness and the eventual peeling. Shortly thereafter, you will notice a light bronzing appearance, and by the fourth day, you will notice the new skin layer.
Typically, you will see initial results between days 2 and 5 after your Halo™ treatment, but your skin will continue to improve over time. Most patients see the greatest improvement in the first 2 to 3 weeks. Results of the Halo treatment can last for years to come as long you continue to keep your new, healthy skin protected at all times using sunscreen.
The dual-wavelength technology is what sets Halo™ apart from other laser treatments. It can actually resurface 25 to 30 percent of the skin, all while being precise and extremely gentle. Other “gentle” lasers typically can only resurface about 5 percent of the skin. Additionally, Halo™ requires fewer treatments and longer-lasting results than other dermal resurfacing options such as traditional fractional lasers or chemical peels.
Potential Risk Factors and Side Effects
The Halo™ Laser Treatment is arguably one of the safest and most effective dermal rejuvenation treatments out there. But it does involve lasers, which come with potential risks including but not limited to burning, blistering, scarring, and infection. It is important to note that the risk of burning or scarring is higher for those with darker skin tones, but Halo™ remains the best option for all skin tones.
Be sure to discuss your comprehensive health history with your practitioner before receiving treatment. Laser treatment is not recommended for women who are pregnant.
Are You Ready for Lasting Results?
Whether you want to tackle fine lines and sun damage, or you are just craving a youthful and radiant glow, the Halo™ Laser Treatment is safe, effective, and it works. With minimal side effects and less than average downtime, Halo™ is the perfect choice to rejuvenate and regenerate your skin.
As with any skincare treatment, a thorough consultation is recommended. The expert practitioners at First Impressions Rejuvenation Clinic are happy to answer any questions and ease any concerns you may have regarding treatment options, procedure, risks, and recovery.
